You Actually Like Reading for Fun?

I can’t tell you how often I heard that growing up. I even vividly remember the first time someone ‘called me out’ for my above-average AR reading points. Ah… the sweet sting of youth. Looking back now, I find it so absurd that I was scared to admit that I enjoyed reading for fun. I will admit, at the time it hurt my elementary-aged feelings, but it absolutely DIDN’T hamper my love of reading in any way.

 

Sure, maybe my love of reading was fed mostly by my older sister constantly shoving a new book into my hands and telling me to get her when I finish it. Looking back now, I realize that was actually the first book club I joined. The only members were two young girls desperate to escape into some new adventure-filled world. The point is – for as far back as I can remember, I have always had a deep love for reading.

 

 

Books Are My Hobby.

I tell people all the time “books are my thing.” I always have a current read and my TBR list could put a Walgreens receipt to shame. Do I use reading as an escape mechanism? SURE! Do I care? Absolutely not. Bottom line – I, along with millions of other people, truly enjoy reading for fun. The driving force behind that enjoyment is a moot point. Okay, so mayyyybe I get sucked into books and don’t respond to people for days on end. But, is that really the worst thing in the world? I say, no!

 

 

 

So, What Books Do You Enjoy Reading for Fun?

If we’re being honest here, that’s typically my least favorite question. As soon as you tell someone you’re an avid reader they immediately assume you only read very academic nonfiction books which is not the case for me. Like, at all. Sure, I love a good mindset-shaping book like “Super Attractor.” (If you’re into mindset, spirituality and pretty rocks then you are my people.)

 

But, more often than not, I have my nose buried in some sort of Sci-Fi or Fantasy book. Bonus points if there’s a mysterious Fae character with a smoldering gaze. I’m a complete sucker for romance and intrigue. Morally gray love interests? You KNOW I’m reading it.
